Hi there!
I got more and more requests about how to start in the shitty porn industry that I’m working in.
What you need:
- Platforms
- Smartphone, Camera or Webcam
- Lighting
- Video Editing App
- (optional) Computer
How to make money fast? Luck and Camming. It can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 5 hours to find somebody who’s willing to tip a lot on you. Perfect lighting, a great camera and perfect internet speed won’t bring a magic sugar daddy. There’s no guarantee you’ll ever make 5 figures in a month, but 4 figures are definitely possible with regular camming.
Platforms
We all heard about Onlyfans, Fansly, Faphouse, X, PornHub, XVideos, XNXX, Stripchat, Chaturbate, ManyVids, etc., right? Where to start?!
Start on Stripchat if you need fast money. ¨¨Why not Chaturbate? Cause they suck. They don’t allow big toys, prolapse or fisting (except your name is siswet19, then big toys are fine). Same for Onlyfans. They’ve gone softcore in 2021.
If you don’t want to stream – that’s fine. Just grab your phone or camera and upload videos to the tube sites.
Fansly and Faphouse still have the best traffic for me, but it can be different for you. ManyVids and Clips4Sale also allow big toys, fisting and prolapse, but their userbase is small in comparison.
If you want to get seen worldwide, you’ll need to sign up on Sheer, PornHub and XHamster. Sheer is the onlyfans alternative started by the largest porn network XVideos+XNXX. You’ll get the most traffic on your free videos there. That doesn’t mean they convert into subscribed fans though.
If you’re lucky on Fansly, your page can blow up using the For You Page. You’ll need to create a short trailer and add tags. If you already got a trailer, upload it on X and Reddit, as well.
You can make a little ad revenue from porn, but it’s really low compared to YouTube. Expect 0.20US$ – 0.80US$ RPM (Revenue per 1000 views). XHamster is by far the lowest with an average of only 0.20US$. PornHub and the XVideos network can be higher, but it depends which countries your viewers live in.
Affiliate Links were used in this section. That didn’t change my opinions or recommendations though.
Smartphone, Camera or Webcam
For getting started, a simple Logitech C930 can be enough. Or your phone connected via USB as a webcam. It’s always a better choice to use the rear camera instead of the selfie camera, as the quality is much better.
The video with my most views was only a live recording, shot on that poor Logitech webcam. So, yes, you really don’t need an expensive cam.
The big question is: horizontal or vertical shooting? Vertical like all the Shorts, Reels, etc. is great for promotions on X, Twitter and the Fansly FYP (For you page), however you’ll perform bad on the major tube sites. On XVideos, XNXX, PornHub and XHamster, horizontal is still the best choice.
I shoot horizontal and export vertical trailers in my video editing program.
Lighting
Way more important than a camera is lighting. If you’re shooting outdoors during the day, make sure to have only little light in the background. But the sun is so strong, outdoor clips can look fucking amazing. Even indoors, in brightly lit rooms, you might be just fine without any lights.
But when you’re home alone at night, you gotta ramp up those lights. I started with trashy LED softboxes from eBay for 80€ (two pieces). They’re soooo bright. And worked fine for some time but the first broke after 2 years and the other after 5 years. They’re also fucking big. I hated them cause they use up all the space in the room. But softboxes make the prettiest, softest light possible. Skin just looks stunning with them.
Even though simple LED video lights are easy and cheap, I advise you to not use them because hard light just doesn’t look… that pretty, no matter which camera you’ll use. You need a diffusor on a light to make it soft. Softboxes can’t be outperformed, but they are big and annoying to setup. More compact and faster are reflector umbrellas and foldable diffusors. Sadly, those foldable diffusors seem to be only available for more expensive lights like the Amaran P60x or YONGNUO YN900. If you find a cheap LED light with foldable diffusor, let us know in the comments!
Video Editing App
Use whatever you like the most. I started with iMovie in 2015. Purchased Final Cut Pro for macOS in 2020 and edited 80 videos in there, but switched to DaVinci Resolve Free in 2024 for Fairlight, the audio tracks and its advanced color grading. Nowadays I switch between DaVinci and FCP. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I used to be annoyed from Adobe, but I heard Premiere isn’t too bad nowadays either.
If you’re into filters and AI stuff, CapCut can do some of it for free, but I hate CapCut. It’s clunky to navigate on both Desktop and Mobile. It’s filled with this shit AI slop and rubbish effects. But for beginners it might be alright. I’d always recommend DaVinci or iMovie over CapCut as I prefer the natural or cinematic looks.
Computer (Notebook or Desktop)
Many people just use a smartphone or tablet nowadays. For everything. But I think it sucks big time. You can’t run OBS. Attaching storage is clunky. Video editing is mediocre.
A computer helps tremendously with streamlining video exports, organising your clips, recording livestreams, putting watermarks with your performer name in all clips, etc.
Regarding watermarks, many websites started banning Links in videos. Especially WebGroup (XVideos/XNXX/Sheer), but also Stripchat. If you put a watermark in your livestream using OBS, make sure it’s only your model name and no link. Same for all videos you upload to Stripchat and Sheer.
…Work In Progress…
